If you have the HP 6500, you might try (on the control panel of the printer itself) press the setup button, select Preferences then select Cartridge Chip info, press the 1 key on the number key pad (on the printer itself) that will turn of the usage information collection. Although you probably will lose the cartridge levels info, at least you can refill the cartridges and they should work. I hope this helps, it did for me.

The Canon Pixma 250 printer uses pg-512, pg-510, cl-513 and acl-511 cartridges. You can refill them with compatible ink (a lot of manufacturers provide compatible ink for them). Once the level of ink is zero , reset button should be pressed for around 5 to 6 seconds. Thus, the computer will cease from detecting the ink level in the cartridge and the the person can refill the cartridges and continue with the printing. Tedd Doubtson.
